19 AZERBAİJANİ BOXERS TO COMPETEİN THE SEMİFİNALS OF THE GREAT SİLK WAY İNTERNATİONAL TOURNAMENT

The traditional Great Silk Way International Tournament continues in Baku. On the fourth day of competition, the quarterfinals among men and the semifinals among women were completed.

 

In the 50 kg category, Subhan Mamedov faced Lachlan Shipsey (Australia). Our world champion won all three rounds and secured a dominant 5:0 victory (30:27, 30:27, 30:27, 30:27, 30:27). He will meet Goga Topuria (Georgia) in the semifinals.

 

In the same weight class, Bilalhabashi Nazarov also advanced, defeating his teammate Yusif Soltanov by stoppage. On his way to the final, Nazarov will face Sahil Allahverdovi (Georgia).

 

Mahammadali Ashiraliyev (60 kg) defeated Umid Rustamov 3:2 (29:28, 28:29, 29:28, 29:28, 28:29). In his next bout, he will take on Altynbek Nursultan (Kazakhstan).

 

In the same division, Mahammadali Gasimzade eliminated Tolga Kaya (Türkiye) with a 5:0 victory (29:28, 30:27, 29:28, 30:27, 30:27). He will face his teammate Tayfur Aliyev in the semifinals, who defeated Mouates Bechegra (Algeria) 4:1 (30:27, 29:28, 30:27, 27:30, 30:27).

 

Sarkhan Aliyev (70 kg) advanced after his opponent, Oliver Wilson (Australia), did not show up. He will meet Refik Kartal (Türkiye) in the semifinals.

 

Thus, 19 of our boxers will step into the ring in tomorrow’s semifinal stage in the men’s competition. By reaching this stage, they have secured at least a bronze medal.

 

In the women’s national team, Gunel Rahimova (51 kg) and Emili Rzayeva (65 kg) have already finished the tournament with bronze medals.

 

It should be noted that the Great Silk Way International Tournament, held at the Baku Boxing Center with the participation of 10 countries, will conclude on April 7. The women’s final bouts will take place tomorrow.
