The U19 European Boxing Championships have kicked off in Loznica, Serbia. The opening day of the competition, which features athletes from 35 countries, proved successful for the Azerbaijani national team, with three of our boxers beginning their campaigns with victories.

Gular Huseynova (51 kg) faced Serbia’s Natasha Lukic in the Round of 16. Our boxer won all three rounds and secured a convincing 5–0 victory (30:26, 30:25, 30:26, 30:26, 30:26). She will face Patricia Petriman of Hungary, who received a bye in the opening round, in the quarterfinals on August 17.

Ali Aliyev (50 kg) also started his European Championships campaign with a victory. In the Round of 32, he defeated Italy’s Imad Bouraouia 5–0 (30:27, 30:27, 30:27, 30:27, 29:28). The Azerbaijani boxer will face Adrian Zamecik of Slovakia in his second bout on August 15.

Ali Bakhishov (60 kg) also advanced to the Round of 16. Our representative earned a unanimous 5–0 decision over Armenia’s Artur Avetisyan (28:25, 27:26, 27:26, 27:26, 27:26). He will take on Croatia’s Petar Krpan on August 16.

The European Championships will conclude on August 21.
