At the World Championship held in Bangkok in 2003, Azerbaijani boxing achieved a historic milestone. Agasi Mammadov won the gold medal in the 54 kg category, defeating all his opponents. This was the first gold medal in the history of Azerbaijani boxing at World Championships.

Additionally, Tofiq Ahmadov and Ruslan Khairov secured bronze medals. The national team ranked among the top five, strengthening Azerbaijan’s recognition on the global boxing stage.
