2011 – THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP IN BAKU FOR THE FIRST TIME
A historic World Championship in Azerbaijan and the road to the London Olympics
One of the greatest achievements of Azerbaijani boxing in recent years was being entrusted with hosting the AIBA World Boxing Championships for elite athletes in Baku. Held in 2011, the tournament also served as a qualification event for the London 2012 Summer Olympics. In addition, the championship set a participation record, bringing together 685 boxers from 127 countries. Azerbaijani boxers won 1 gold and 1 silver medal at the World Championship.
